Obviously, I’m new here. And I’m not really sure as to what I’m supposed to say in this introductory post, so hello. ^^;

Hi there! Great to have you. So… who are you, what do you do, where are you from, what kind of art do you like? That kind of stuff. We’re at 16 users and climbing! yeah!

Well, my name is Whitney, but most people just call me Whit or some really random stuff like come up with on the spot. >.>

I’m a student in Texas and I like just about any type of art. I usually only post anime and random pictures on my dA account, though, and I suck at digital art. So, yeah…that’s ’bout it. :D

Alright! a fellow Texan!

As far as digital art goes, it’s actually fairly easy once youi’ve got the right software. There should be some tutorials on elfwood FARP. The real trick is to use several different layers and blend modes. If you get layers, blend modes, layer masks, the paintbrush, the clone stamp, and perhaps even the smudge tool then you’re set.

I actually have the software, I just don’t have the proper time to sit down and try to practice using it. ;__; And, of course, without any practice it’s pretty hard to make something look perfect the first time. Maybe I’ll have time to work on something this Christmas break, though. *nod*

Hi Whitney! Welcome here.

Sorry to break in, but digital art doesn’t have to be all that complicated. Especially if you have access to a scanner. Then you can make your line-art on paper, scan and color digitally. Which is a lot easier than going from scratch. If you check the Junk forum there’s a thread about favorite tutorials, in the first post you’ll find a link to tutorials made by Jessica Peffer which are really easy and quick coloring tutorials. Maybe you can start there?

I’ll have to check those out. I’m usually just too braindead to use Photoshop correctly.

Thanks. ^^

Haha, I think you can manage it if you just make up your mind and sit down patiently for a little while. That’s the problem with all new mediums in my opinion, you’ve got to spend time with them before you know if it’s going to be for you or not.
