I’m just wondering what the possibilities for spiffy graphics and such on the site are? I mean, is it possible to make this like you would any other normal website, or are we restricted by things?

I’ll all for spiffing this place up. That being said, I also have no idea where to go with the theme. It’s all open to change. Although I did want something rather simple and not distract from the actual content.

It looks like you’ve at least got an avatar for the forums. I would like to figure out how to integrate that into the comments as well. We’ll see.

Oh and we have no restrictions here. I own the whole shibang… well, I at least pay for the space and domain through godaddy.com but that pretty much gives me free reign. So… we can pretty much do whatever we want so long as it doesn’t violate their TOS. Which means no porn/hate/illegal stuff. That’s pretty much it.

I did manage to get an avatar, and realized that it was possible just a split second after posting this question - then avatars included. ^^’

Cool to have the freedom! I can see why you would want to keep it simple and to the point, but then again since it’s an art related comunity I think it could bare a little more artsy-ness (excuse my phrasing, I’ve slept too little).

I was thinking that if this gets to the same size as the original CE there’s going to be a lot of members. Would it be possible for everyone to link in one or two of their pictures which are randomly shown in a "get started" page or something like that? Similar to the EW tours. (I’m sticking to DA nowadays, the messaging systems is much easier)

So… are you suggesting that we be able to showcase the artwork of new members? Almost like the mod’s choice for EW?

I love the idea. Although it may be difficult to impliment. We really need a member who can run circles around PHP before we get that in-depth. It’s a great idea though. I’ll certainly add it to the to-do list.

I think if we actually figure out how to do it, that we should both showcase new members but also have a random page, much like how you’ve made the URL’s random (brilliant by the way) maybe showing off 5 - 10 random members. I’ll look into PHP and see if I understand anything, and as I said previously see if I find someone that understands it already.

PHP is some pretty confusing stuff. Especially when you’re talking about database lookup, and scrapeing a webpage for the images there. Such an option would also discriminate against writers slightly because they wouldn’t have an image and thusly people would be less drawn to their writings through that function… unless there where seperate sections for each one… and the one for writers simply displayed titles. Still, you’re talking about scrapeing content and that’s no easy task.

Separate sections would of course be the way to go.

Is there really no other way that PHP?

The entire framework for the site is coded in PHP. So if I need to code anything that is as dynamic as you’re suggesting, then yes, it needs to be done in PHP.

Alright.

I found a PHP school online (in swedish) and if I have the time I’ll look through it. Who knows maybe I can be of some help. ^^

Ps. Is it possible to make polls in the forum in some way?

Hey, any help I can get, I’ll take!

I’m hoping I can get someone with a strong programming background to help out. My little bro is a programming wizard, but he just recently joined the Navy and probably won’t have internet access for quite some time. Actually, now that I think about it… most of my programmer friends are in the armed forces now. Hmmmmm…. an odd trend indeed.

Yeah, it’s weird how everyone is joining some kind of military at the moment, a friend of mine is joining the navy after new years and my boyfriend wants to go to Kosovo with the peace forces this fall…

I got my hands on a copy of dreamweaver, kind of an old version. But hopefully it can do something helpful.
